MoCap Proposal Document

This document will be the closing capture statement of the Concept Development Phase. Requires customer approval.

Idea

Build a cheaper solution to the overly expensive MoCap systems. Also, this sysstem should have no limits to space considerations.

High Concept

MoCap for everyone.

Target Market Segment Strategy

This is to identify what the underlying message will be and how it will be conveyed to the target market.

Features

  • Universal fit
  • Ease of use
  • Works with the major software providers
  • Freedom of movement

Target Market

Budding film makers.

Target Hardware Platform

Any hardware that can run comercial 3d software.

Estimated Schedule and Budget

4 weeks with the proper motivation minus shipping time for the hardware.

Competitive Analysis

Most systems on the market cost more than $25,000 and are still limited by the space it is setup in. The only other cheap alternative is to use Wii Motes but that is not scalable to capturing a full skeleton.

IPI Systems has a mocap system that uses cameras and it only costs $995.

The Team

  • Someone that understands microcontrollers and EE to build the hardware.
  • Someone that can create an interface between the hardware and the 3d packages (Mel, MaxScript, FBX).

Risk Analysis

I may become un interested and stop working on it or not have the money to buy all the hardware.

Summary

Full MoCap system for under $2500.
