+There's a lot of comments on this article, but.  Hackaday should be more diligent.  This article is supposition.  There are no facts in it.  Is it possible? Yes, I know for a fact what governments are capable of.  And there are plenty of news stories depicting that router x has a backdoor for government Y and so forth, which are very specific, why isn't this article?  But to post a story about this without any factual evidence is damaging to the IT industry.  So IT person (me for a few hours) freaks out that they need to replace all of their hardware.  From my reading up on this, the likely story is that there is a security flaw in the BMC as stated by Amazon when they acquired supermicro. This is a bug, not some government spy hole.  Now, there maybe some server manufacturer that is using supermicro motherboards and building complete servers with this "chip" backdoor on them.  but single them out if this is the case.  Otherwise It's all B.S.  And "oh it possible" as an IT person you account for the possible.  But if there is hard evidence that some equipment or software is compromised, then it needs to be replaced.
